To do that, we need to “draw” the image onto a element and then use the canvas context ( ctx) getImageData() method to produce a list of the image’s colors. Let’s get started! Step 1: Read image colors from the canvasĬanvas lets us “read” the colors contained in an image. And these won’t just be random guesses - we’ll use binary search techniques to make this process quick. The keen-eyed observer would notice that something isn't quite right in the example. In this example, I chose a fun gradient, but you could use a simple background color or even another image to overlay. Finally, we’ll adjust the opacity of our overlay until the text contrast hits the readability goal. We make the overlay slightly transparent utilizing the opacity property.Next, we’ll prepare a color-mixing formula we can use to test different opacity levels on top of that pixel’s color. The background-blend-mode CSS property sets how an elements background images should blend with each other and with the elements background color. We’ll find the pixel in the image that has the least contrast with the text. We’ll put the image in an HTML, which will let us read the colors of each pixel in the image. To find the optimal overlay opacity we’ll go through four steps: Our final result will be a value we can apply to the CSS opacity property of the overlay that gives us the right amount of transparency that makes the text 4.5 times lighter than the background. To complicate things a bit, we’ll use an image with both dark and light space and make sure the overlay takes that into account. Given those inputs, we want to find the overlay opacity level that makes the text readable without hiding the image so much that it, too, is difficult to see. Let’s pick a text color, a background image, and an overlay color as a starting point. We’ve said we want readable text on top of a background image, but what does “readable” even mean? For our purposes, we’ll use the WCAG definition of AA-level readability, which says text and background colors need enough contrast between them such that that one color is 4.5 times lighter than the other. Here’s the planįirst, let’s get specific about our goals. Im going to show you how to add a linear gradient overlay to just the. But where’s the fun in that? What I want to show you is how this tool works so you have a new way to handle this all-too-common problem. There are a number of ways to accomplish a color overlay on a background image using CSS. This option lets you set a color overlay on a background image in one property! This is my preferred method. We could say “Problem solved!” and simply end this article here. I’ve also written a working example of these options on a CodePen. The other option is to have a background-color property set with whatever color your heart desires, plus background-blend-mode: multiply.īelow are a couple of sample snippets of these options in CSS. I love the fact that this hatchery tries to educate kids and adults on raising trout, I just wish there has been more to see or do. I think a curated tour would have awesome. Other than reading some scattered informational plaques and paying 25 cents to feed trout, there was literally nothing else to do. Once we walked outside, were greeted with a beautiful view of a dam and the some caged fences pool where the trout are raised from minos to larger fish. There was a small aquarium but it was only about 9 feet-ish (approx) in viewing length so adults and children were all in very close proximity to view it.Īfter about 7-8 minutes, we were done seeing everything that was of interest in the small visitors center, so we went outside to see the actual hatcheries. Mask mandates were not being enforced in case that matters to you) The hatchery did have educational elements, but they were not curated and only consisted of 1 or two small kiosks and very small main visitors center. After about 20 minutes, all the kids were ready to go. As much as I really wanted to like this place, we all found a little boring. So, I came here with my family and extended family with included 5 kids and 3 parents. PriceĪre you on a budget? If you love to read books but you’re not willing to commit at least $100 for an E-Reader, we recommend sticking to the free Kindle app. Since some devices limit store access, you might have to log on to your Amazon account elsewhere when it’s time to purchase a new book with the Kindle app. Store accessĪs we’ve already established, you can only access the Kindle store on the web or the Kindle device itself. Now to decide what variation of Kindle you’ll be getting, here’s a comparison of the app and device below 1. When you get the price, you can then compare if that exact functionality can be gotten on the Kindle app. Since the basic model is about $90, we recommend reviewing all Kindle models to know which one fits your needs first. Perhaps the biggest drawback is the price. Kindles are waterproof and lightweight so you can use them during a bath, at the pool or beach. So you can browse and purchase books from one place. Unlike the Kindle app, you can directly access your Amazon Kindle store. This is because this device comes with parental controls for restricting ads and other content. If you have a child for example, and you want to limit their screen time to reading books alone, the Kindle Kids is perfect. There are also different Kindle types for various use cases. Since you can download multiple books, you won’t worry about exhausting the storage space. Are Kindle Devices Worth the Purchase?Ī lot of people prefer to opt for the physical Kindle reader, especially for their vast reading needs. So if you need to buy or borrow a book, you will need to log in to Amazon on a separate device. There’s also the disadvantage of having to use another device to access the Kindle store. You’d also find it harder to read under direct sunlight with the Kindle app. You will face distractions from apps, notifications and more which is not a great option if you want to focus solely on reading. Unfortunately, since you’ll be using the app on a regular screen, it will significantly increase your screen time. Like the Kindle, there are colour schemes and brightness adjustments so it’s not hurting your eyes. It’s similar to when you are reading posts, online magazines or ebooks on that same device. When you use the Kindle app, you pretty much see text on that device. Unlike the Kindle, there are no purchases or recurring subscriptions. With this app, you can access Kindle on iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. The Kindle app is a free Amazon software that lets you access your Kindle library from a non-kindle device. In this example the ratio is 1.39:1 - that is quite similar to 4/3 (as is 1.333:1). Which gives you the aspect ratio and the resolution. Movie-Aspect is 1.39:1 - prescaling to correct movie aspect. You might consider options like -ss, -endpos or -chapter. Play you input movie with mplayer, ensure that mplayer plays exactly what you want to put in the DVD. In order to decide ratio and resolution you must know the resolution of your input movie. The NTSC standard gives you two kinds of frame rate while PAL provides only one.ĭepending of the country you live in, you have to decide between NTSC or PAL. This table shows the real resolution and how the player displays it. The codec is Mpeg-2.ĭVDs do not use square pixels, the pixels are rectangular: while the movie has a certain resolution the player has to display it as if it were deforming the pixels. The two standards also have different frame ratios. The aspect ratio can be '16/9' or '4/3', the available resolutions change if you are making a PAL or a NTSC DVD. Standard compliant DVD videos have a well-defined and precise video requirement. If you are changing the sampling rate and you think the audio quality is poor you can try to add the argument -af resample=48000::2: doing so mplayer will use its most precise algorithm. Using both commands, we will have two files, one per audio track. oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=ac3:abitrate=128 -o italian_audio.ac3 $ mencoder movie.mov -alang it -ovc frameno -of rawaudio -srate 48000 -channels 2 \ oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=ac3:abitrate=384 -o english_audio.ac3 $ mencoder movie.mov -alang en -ovc frameno -of rawaudio -srate 48000 -channels 6 \ Usually ac3 uses 64 or 96 kbps per audio channel. If the audio track it is not an acceptable ac3 file then you have to encode it. $ mencoder movie.mov -alang en -ovc frameno -of rawaudio -oac copy \ If your input file already has an ac3 encoded audio track (with an acceptable bitrate, sample rate and frame rate) you should not encode it again. Selected audio codec: afm: liba52 (AC3-liba52) In order to know your input file audio codec, you can use mplayer, here is an example of a file with a fine audio track:ĪUDIO: 48000 Hz, 6 ch, s16le, 448.0 kbit/9.72% (ratio: 56000->576000) While the heavy constraints of the video makes it almost impossible to find a video track without need of encoding, it is fairly common to find files with an ac3 track. The audio and video total bitrate cannot be greater than 9800 kbps so every audio track reduces the bitrate for the video, but it should not be a problem since a maximum of 8264 kbps (9800 - 1536) of video bitrate is enough. You can have mono, stereo or 5.1 audio tracks. A DVD video can have up to 1536 kbps of audio information, but for each audio track the limit is 448 kbps. The audio tracks are encoded using the Dolby Surround AC-3 Digital codec with a sample rate of 48000Hz. If the disk includes more than one movie, you can select one using the chapter function of the DVD player. We will begin by creating a simpleĭVD that autostarts when put in the DVD player, without any menu. Definition of the DVD contentįor this example, every movie on the DVD has one video track, at least one audio track, and possibly includes subtitles. The point of this article is to summarize most of the available knowledge in only one place. However, most of those pages focus on one aspect of this process. Why another article about this process? There is a plethora of articles, man pages, and blog entries about how to convert any movie to a standard DVD Video viewable on any hardware DVD player. Legends, lies and rumours of these four cars persist to this day but they are the most collectible of all GTs. Three prototypes (all supplied to race and rally teams) and one actual production model of the Phase IV were built. Almost one third of the XA GT models were hardtops out of a total of 2,759 units sold. The XA GT continued the race-winning tradition set by the earlier models culminating in the Moffat/Geoghegan Bathurst victory in 1973 followed by the 1974 Goss/Bartlett win in pouring rain making the XA GT the single most successful GT at Bathurst. The hardtop eventually became even more famous as the basis for the Mad Max super car for the film of the same name. The Windsor 302 V8 was replaced by a 302 version of the locally-built V8. From the end of the XY series, the GT’s Cleveland V8 was locally assembled from imported parts before they were manufactured here. The XA GT marked a return to the popular 12-slot sports wheel. Upgraded suspension and extra refinement made it even more of a Grand Tourer. The XA series was the first all-Australian Falcon design and the sleek new GT looked the part with twin bonnet NART scoops, side vents on the front guards, blacked-out bonnet, wheel arches and door sills, and driving lights integrated into the blacked-out grille. Ford had to quickly find a home for 200 sets of the Phase IVs 15 inch Globe Bathurst wheel and Australias first 60 series radial tyre amongst previous Phase III owners so that the Phase III could continue racing in 1972 on the latest 15 inch racing rubber. Media controversy over race homologation specials hitting the streets killed the XA Phase IV at birth. The XA Falcon saw the return of a two-door hardtop, which allowed the new XA GT to appear in two-and four-door body styles for the first time. Not content with only being behind the lens, however, Savini has appeared in dozens of films, and can be seen demonstrating his capable acting skills as "Morgan, the Black Knight" in Knightriders (1981), as "Blades", one of the biker gang members in Dawn of the Dead (1978) and as "Sex Machine", another leather-clad biker-but this time with a groin-mounted gun-in the wild vampire film From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). In 1990, Savini directed his feature film debut Night of the Living Dead (1990), the remake of the original zombie-classic. Savini also contributed the incredible EFX & make-up to other splatter thrillers such as Maniac (1980), The Burning (1981), Creepshow (1982) and Romero's third "Dead" film, Day of the Dead (1985) (for which he won a Saturn Award). Romero-directed zombie film Dawn of the Dead (1978), and then in the controversial slasher film Friday the 13th (1980), the movie generally identified as the kickstart for the aforementioned "splatter movie" genre. He really caught the attention of horror buffs with his grisly effects in the cult George A. In Savini's insightful book "Grande Illusions", he speaks of his early attempts at applying prosthetics to his face using "spearmint gum", having misinterpreted that he was meant to actually use "spirit gum"! His first work was in low-budget fare, providing SFX and make-up for independently made horror films such as Deranged (1974) and Martin (1977). Savini was heavily influenced by the remarkable silent-era actor Lon Chaney, and he sought to emulate the amazing theatrical make-up effects that were a hallmark of Chaney's career. Tarantino is pretty bad at acting but his best performance by far is in this movie, where hes playing a creepy serial killer with foot fetish. Clooney does all the heavy lifting in this movie and gives a hell of a movie star performance. Along with fellow special make-up legends Dick Smith and Rob Bottin, Savini was one of the key SFX people behind the startling make-up & EFX seen in the fantasy/horror genre films of the 1980s-'90s. From Dusk Till Dawn is a fun grindhouse double-feature crammed into one movie, tho i prefer the first half. He has acquired a remarkable cult following among film fans, primarily due to his ground-breaking SFX in the "splatter movie" explosion of the early 1980s. Later, as a combat photographer in Vietnam, Savini saw first-hand the gruesome carnage for which he later gained fame, simulating it on screen. He spent his youth in his room creating characters by tirelessly practicing make-up. Each of these 10+ From Dusk Till Dawn Wallpapers has been community curated to work great as a wallpaper. Inspired by the film Man of a Thousand Faces (1957), a young Savini became fascinated with the magic and illusion of film. It is surprisingly an entertaining show to watch on Sunday's.Actor/SFX wizard/stuntman/director Tom Savini was born in Pittsburgh. If you get the El Rey channel, Netflix, or have internet to download, I definitely recommend keeping up with the series. If you've been keeping up with each episode so far, you've noticed little nods to the world of Rodriguez/Tarantino such as The Big Kahuna Burger, Earl Mcgraw's character played by Don Johnson in the series, Seth/Richies mannerisms.etc. All I have to say is by the end of the episode, you'll be wanting to see next weeks. The story is great and smart, incorporating Wilmer Valderammas character Carlos and Ranger Gonzales who is still hot on the Gecko Brothers trail. This scene is much different than the film though, it that the stakes feel way more dangerous and higher. from dusk till dawn the series, d j cotrona, seth gecko is part of TV Series Collection and its available for Desktop Laptop PC and Mobile Screen. A small synopsis is that The Gecko Brothers and Fuller Family are almost into Mexico, but they need to get past the border checkpoint. Episode 5 was the best episode I've seen yet. So far though, the story is building the same way it did in the film, in that the Gecko brothers are on the run after robbing a bank, join up with the Fuller Family by taking them hostage in there RV so that they can evade police and make there way for El Rey. I assume things will be somewhat different though from the film before the season is over in order to keep the story going since the series was recently renewed for another season after this one. What I like about the show is that it follows the original story religiously, but goes into way more detail than it did in the film. 5 episodes in the series and each one has been nostalgic of the film. The show has proved to be successful with his adapting the film to television. The difference though between the last couple films and this series, is that Robert Rodriguez(the guy who created/directed original film) is the helmer of this series rather than someone else. This is also because they attempted to do several other films afterwards that were all flops. I was very apprehensive about checking out the From Dusk Till Dawn the Series, because I really liked the original film and felt that the show wouldn't do justice. |
